2025-01-19 - The Mugello GP run consists in one or two loops of the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello, a race track circuit in Tuscany property of Scuderia Ferrari which uses it for Formula One testing. 2024-12-15 - The traditional running appointment for all Florentines in December is the Firenze-Fiesole-Firenze, a 16.5k very panoramic run that - as its title implies - goes from Firenze up to the hill town of Fiesole and back. And the turnaround point is definitely worth a visit. The first recorded mention of Fiesole dates back to 283 bC, when the town was conquered by the Romans, but it was probably founded in the IX century bC by looking at the remains of its ancient Etruscan walls. An independent powerful town for several centuries in the early Middle Ages, it was finally conquered by the Florentines in 1125 to became a getaway for the upper class of Firenze, and up to this day, Fiesole is still known for its very expensive residential properties with panoramic views over the whole Firenze. www.aicsfirenze.net

2024-07-21 - The Salitredici delivers what its title promises - a 13.2k point-to-point uphill course. The route brings the participants from the medieval town of Abbadia San Salvatore, near Siena, to the top of the Amiata mountain on a shaded street completely closed to traffic. 2024-07-07 - The Reggello-Vallombrosa is held in Reggello. It is the classic Summer event for those living around Firenze. The course is a point-to-point one measuring 13.2k. It starts from the quaint little town of Reggello and ends up in Vallombrosa, a Benedictine abbey surrounded by forests of beech and firs, founded by Giovanni Gualberto, a Florentine noble, in 1038. 2024-06-30 - The Pistoia-Abetone is held in Pistoia. It is one of the most famous Italian ultramarathons. The course is a point-to-point one, mostly uphill, finishing in the ski town of Abetone. This requires hiking up the mountains to cross the river behind its source, for a total of 75 kilometers. Depending whether you run or hike, to complete the event it may take you a full day (dawn to sunset) or two days (if you rest mid-way and spend the night in the quaint village of Montepiano like most participants do). 2024-02-04 - Experience local history by running in Arezzo the Su e gił per la Torre di Gnicche, a 12.5k run on the surrounding hills, among olive trees and vineyards, and passing by the tower named after Federigo Bobini, also known as "Gnicche". A ruthless bandit active in this area in the mid-1800s, Gnicche terrorized the area by mugging, stealing and killing people. Yet, he is said to have been a "gentleman bandit" for his galant behavior with women. 2023-04-30 - The Ultratrail del Mugello begins with a climb in the beautiful forests surrounding the ancient Badia di Moscheta, near Firenzuola, in the province of Firenze. It then continues climbing the ridgeline of the Apennine watershed, passing sections that alternate between breathtaking panoramic views and old growth forests, and reaching Mount Pratone, one of the most stunning sections of the race. The trail follows the Gothic Line, where the German forces created a defensive line hoping to slow the advance of the allied army during their retreat from the Second World War. 2022-03-12 - The Corsa del tartufo marzuolo, a 10k fun run held in the small town of Cigoli di San Miniato, in the province of Pisa, is celebrating the local delicacy - the March truffle, here known as the "Little Prince of the Hills". The "tartufo marzuolo" is a small white truffle that can be digged from under pine trees in the Spring, rather than having to wait for the Fall. 2020-01-19 - The castle of Monteriggioni itself, near Siena, is worth a trip to enjoy this incredible medieval walled town, let alone the possibility of running on the Via Francigena, the ancient road from Canterbury to Rome, that in the Middle Ages was the most important religious route for those wishing to visit the Holy See and the tombs of the apostles Peter and Paul. The occasion is offered by the race Sulle orme di Sigerico, a 20k event retracing part of the pilgrimage Sigerico, the Archbishop of Canterbury, made around 990 aD to receive his pallium. 2019-03-17 - A Unesco World Heritage Site since 2013, the Medici Villa La Ferdinanda, located in Artimino di Carmignano near Prato, hosts the Artimino Ultramarathon an 8-hour event featuring 43k, 22k, and 10k options as well. The splendid Medici Villa is also known as the "Villa of the 100 chimneys" due to the numerous chimneys that make it unique. Imposing, elegant, and luxurious, surrounded by the typical Tuscan countryside, it is just a few kilometres from Firenze and Pisa.
